How long does a panel or service upgrade take?

The electrical installation window is only part of a panel upgrade schedule. Design, permits, utility engineering, equipment readiness and inspection can determine when the home can be reconnected.

Which steps happen before the outage?

The contractor should confirm the scope, load information, equipment and authority route, then align permit and utility requirements. Added capacity or a meter move can need engineering or site work before a cutover date is realistic.

  • Ask which dependencies are cleared and which are still estimates when a date is proposed.

Can the contractor promise same-day reconnection?

Ask for the utility and inspection arrangements behind that statement and the contingency if work requires correction. Tacoma Power has a separate disconnect/reconnect request process.

  • PSE’s construction sequence has readiness and inspection dependencies.
  • An electrician’s time on site cannot guarantee every outside approval or crew event.

What should a household plan around?

Discuss refrigeration, internet, work at home, security and equipment that needs continuous power with the contractor before scheduling. Make any essential power needs explicit early; the contractor can then discuss appropriate project arrangements.

  • Do not assume a generator or temporary connection is included unless it is designed and stated in the agreement.

What marks actual completion?

Installed equipment, electrical final approval, utility restoration and any interconnection authorization are separate milestones. Request the final records and a list of remaining restoration items.

  • A city’s administrative review target is not a guarantee for the whole project; this site makes no fixed permit-processing or outage-duration promise.

What is a useful schedule update?

Ask which dependencies are complete, which party owns the next one and what evidence makes the installation date firm enough to plan around. Equipment readiness, permit issuance, utility engineering and inspection scheduling are different statuses.

  • A project can be progressing even when the home is not yet ready for disconnection.
  • Keep the approved date and contingency arrangements in the direct contractor conversation rather than treating an automated request receipt as scheduling confirmation.
